NANO-SIZING PLATFORM

iCeutica’s nano-sizing technology utilizes solid state chemistry (that is, chemistry in the absence of liquid) to synthesize nano-sized drug particles in a controlled manner. The particles are synthesized into a carrier phase which can optionally be removed to leave the dispersed nano drug. The technology has been applied to a range of acidic, basic and neutral compounds with success, generating nano-sized pharmaceutical actives which have been formulated into a range of dosage forms.

The genesis of the technology comes from the Australian mining industry and has been successfully applied to the large scale manufacture of nano particles in a GMP environment. The simplicity of the process combined with the use of generally available equipment proven in pharmaceutical unit operations, means that the additional cost in the formulation process is negligible.

THE NANO- SIZING PROCESS (EXAMPLE)

Outside iCeutica’s nano-sizing technology, there are several approaches and technologies currently used to formulate poorly soluble drug compounds. These include process technologies such as micronisation, modification of crystal or polymorphic structure, development of oil-based solutions, super critical fluid and production of solid dispersions or solutions.

However, these processes do not:

  • consistently produce sub-200nm sized particles which are qualitatively satisfactory, nor can they be produced in any sort of commercial quantities;
  • Allow the manufacture nano sized compounds within protecting organic or inorganic matrices; or
  • operate without solvents or other environmentally damaging processes which is the basis of the iCeutica nano-sizing technology.
